Please join us for an evening presentation by Miguel Álvarez Gándara.
Miguel is the president of Serapaz in Mexico City, founded by Bishop Samuel Ruiz. He is a spokesperson for the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity, which has publicized the names and photos of thousands of victims killed during the war on drugs. He is working with the families of the 43 missing students of Ayotzinapa in their calls for truth and justice.
Miguel serves on the boards of the Fray Bartolome de Las Casas Human Rights Centre and the Museo jTatik Samuel, both in Chiapas. He worked closely with Bishop Samuel Ruiz for almost 40 years, including with the CONAI, the peace mediation commission which led the dialogue between the Mexican government and the Zapatistas in the 90s.
This January, Miguel received the prestigious Jesuit IBERO award for his long commitment to the work of social justice.
