In this issue of OpenSpace we consider how the current COVID pandemic can be understood as an acute crisis unfolding within a deeper, chronic crisis—revealing the fragility and injustice of a time marked by both growing social inequality and ecological devastation. In the midst of fear and suffering, is there an opportunity to pause, reflect, and ask why we find ourselves at this critical juncture and what is truly important in life? More importantly, might there be an opportunity to embark on a transition to a more just and sustainable way of “living well” with each other and the greater community of life?
